Helikon Quartet,

inspired by Mount Helicon and it’s poetic muses, is an adventurous and versatile string quartet.

The quartet consists of four young women, all in the starting blocks of their careers, with a great willingness to work together to one common goal: creating musical purity. As they are involved in global issues, they see the importance of bringing out their personal message to their audience and followers. They did so by creating extraordinary programs about climate change and the destructive nature of human beings.
Working together with composers on pieces commissioned for them, gave them interesting and eye opening insights to the mind of a composer. Programming new music is an important way to let the voice of the present be heard, as it is a reflection of society. Combining this with their refreshing interpretation of the great string quartet repertoire, the Helikon Quartet can assure it’s audience a one of a kind concert experience.

ENGLISH

The Helikon Quartet was formed in 2015 and is part of the Dutch String Quartet Academy since 2017. Recently they received one of the string quartet stipendia awarded by Het Kersjesfonds.

The quartet gives many concerts throughout The Netherlands. They have performed in the Recital Hall of the Royal Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ (Amsterdam), TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht) and Orpheus (Apeldoorn). They performed during the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, Grachtenfestival and the String Quartet Biënnale Amsterdam. Also, they were guests on the national television and radio shows such as NTR Podium Witteman and Spiegelzaal AVROTROS .

The Helikon Quartet has been coached intensively by the Quatuor Danel in the past two years, as they were part of Rabo Next Stage, a coaching programme for young talent, organised by TivoliVredenburg. In 2016, the quartet received a scholarship to follow masterclasses in England with the Chilingirian Quartet. In 2017 the quartet took part as a guest ensemble at the European Chamber Music Academy.

They received lessons from Stefan Metz, Luc-Marie Aguera, Eberhard Feltz, Petr Prause, Daniel Rowland, Miguel da Silva, Johannes Meissl, Emanuelle Bertrand, Ásdis Valdimarsdottír, Dmitri Ferschtman and Cuarteto Quiroga.

The quartet finds it important to give attention to actualities in their programs, and does so often by working together with composers. In 2017 they played the premiere of a string quartet composed by S. van Yperen and in the NJO Summer Festival of 2018 they again played a world premiere, of a composition written by Ryan Probert, called 'Twilight City'. For this festival they created a program inspired on climate change.
